Willie McLawhorn was the keynote speaker at Monday’s Memorial Day Ceremony in Windsor. Bertie Co. honors Memorial Day THADD WHITE Bertie Ledger-Advance A day to respect, honor and re member. Monday morning, more than ,100 people gathered to pay tribute to Memorial Day, and to those who have lost their lives serving in the United States Armed Forces. U.S. Air Force Col. (Ret.) Brian S. Davis began the ceremony by saying he was happy to be retired back to his home of Bertie County. He also reminded those in attendance the reason for the occa sion. “Memorial Day is about those who didn’t come back,” he said. “What you do today may seem like a small gesture, but its not. You honor the people who have fallen, the people who can’t come back.” The Bertie High School JROTC then presented the colors while Charles L. Two Vidant Home Health and Hospice offices recently were named a Top Agency of the 2017 HomeCare Elite. This award is recog nition of the top-per forming home health agencies in the United States. Filing begins at noon on Monday, June 11 and will continue through noon on Friday, July 6. The school board seats on the ballot for this year include Dis tricts 2, 3 and 4. The District 2 seat is cur rently held by Jo John son, and represents the Merry Hill portion of Bertie County. The District 3 seat is held by Emma Johnson, who represents Auland er, Colerain and Pow ellsville, and the Dis trict 4 seat is currently held by Norman Cherry Sr., who was appointed to fulfill the term of the late Barry McGlone. District 4 represents Lewiston Woodville, Kelford and Roxobel.
